Durable Hustler Mowers
Hustler Mowers was first designed and created by John Regier, an innovative machinist from Moundridge, Kansas. He recognized the need for a lawn mower that would easily navigate around the irregular landscapes of the ordinary family yard that included winding walkways, scattered vegtable and flower gardens and maybe a bird bath or two.
Farm machinery and tinkering pays off
John assembled the first of his Hustler Mowers from a combination of farm machinery and lawn mower parts and wound up creating the worlds first zero-turn lawn mower. His new mower, with its zero degree turning radius, could hug stone walls, reverse directions and turn on a dime – literally! This new approach to cutting grass changed the chore of mowing lawns forever, and made his wife very happy, since her frustration with her old mower was the force behind John’s efforts.
Since 1964
Going into business in his garage in 1964, John produced 24 Hustler Mowers in his first year. His new mower proved so popular he knew he would never be able to keep up with the demand, and joined forces with Excel Industries in Hesston, Kansas. The rest is history, as they say.
